Westville Junior Primary School

Westville Junior Primary opened in 1960. This is a school for girls and boys from Grade R to Grade 3 and has been served through the years by a dedicated staff. The School Badge depicts a tree, which represents the tree that was used in the early days as an out span point for ox wagons traveling inland from Durban. Young trees need to be nurtured and cared for to develop. So, it is with children. The tree, however, can also be seen as symbolic of the gifts we bestow on our learners.

  • Roots – which give security and a solid foundation.
  • Branches – the learners reaching upward and outward into our ever changing world as they move forward to senior primary school.
    • Trunk – interaction between teachers and learners.
      • We impart knowledge, skills and values. We build on the foundations laid at home.
      • We pique their natural curiosity.
      • We enhance creativity.
      • We develop social networks.
      • We develop physical skills to equip learners to have sportsmanship and skills.
      • We facilitate proactive engagement in the learning process.

We adopt a holistic approach in which the emphasis is on establishing a balance between the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of the child. The majority of the learners are Christian; therefore, a Christian ethos prevails.
