The School of Modern Montessori is situated in Gillitts, and offers preschoolers a ‘home from home’ environment where skills for life are developed. Maria Montessori, who was an Italian doctor & psychologist founded the method. She believed that children learn by experiences gained from their environment. She encouraged parents to make the most of the first six years.
Each classroom is divided into various areas – all making the most of a child’s innate love of learning. In the Practical Life section the children develop co-ordination and dexterity and become independent by carrying out activities. In the Sensorial area children experience colours, sounds, touch, taste, dimension and weight.
Activities help the children develop skills for reading and writing. They learn addition, subtraction, multiplication and division by using specifically designed materials. Cultural subjects are also tackled and help the children understand more about their world and their important place in it.

At the College of Montessori we provide internationally-accredited training courses for those who want to become qualified early childhood teachers.
Once candidates have obtained diplomas they are able to teach at Montessori Schools, use the unique training methodology in their own homes, and even open their own Montessori Schools.
A Montessori teacher is known as a Directress, which is representative of the role she plays in guiding motivated exploration and discovery.
We offer 4 training courses:
- Full-time : one year and 6 months research
- Part-time: 1- 2 years(maximum)
- Lower Elementary (6-9 years): 1 – 2 years (maximum)
- Distance learning courses (home study): 12 – 18 months or a maximum of 3 years.
